After secondary schooling in Hong Kong, I went to London where I read for, and was called to, the English Bar by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. That was followed by six months' pupillage in the Chambers in London of Mr Hugh Griffiths QC (later Lord Griffiths) and then another six months' pupillage in the Chambers in Hong Kong of Mr (later Sir) Oswald Cheung QC. Upon completion of my pupillage in Hong Kong, I was admitted to the Hong Kong Bar, and practised, first as junior counsel and then as Queen's Counsel, principally n Hong Kong and occasionally before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London.
